  • Encouragement

Let me be in love with what You love
Let me be most satisfied in You
Forsaking what this world has offered me
I choose to be in love with You
I will choose to be in love with You

Let me know the peace that's mine in You
Let me know the joy my heart can sing
For I have nothing Lord apart from You
I choose to call on Christ in me
I will choose to call on Christ in me

For in the fullness of who You are
I can rest in this place
And giving over this, my journey Lord
I see nothing but Your face

Let me know that You have loved me first
Let me know the weight of my response
For You have long pursued my wandering heart
I choose to glory in Your cross
I will choose to glory in Your cross

    And I bow down...
    Humbly, I bow down...
    Humbly, I bow down...
    I bow down...

I bow down, I bow down
    my beloved- here I am
I bow down, I bow down to You...

It is such an encouragement to me to come to rest in the place where I CHOOSE to rest in the fullness of who He is, where I give over my journey to Him, and see nothing but His face (as opposed to my selfish dreams). But will I continue to choose? "Let me be in love with what You love. Let me be most satisfied in You."

"Choose" from the new Christy Nockels CD. I've been encouraged.

  • New Favorite Musical

Jeremy and I went to see "Sarah Plain and Tall: The Musical" at the Dallas Art Theater on Sunday evening. Every opening weekend of a show they have a deal where you "Pay What you Can" on Sunday night. (I believe that's the correct info.) Anyways, somehow I found out about it months ago and e-mailed the website to Jeremy. Then he put it on his cell phone calendar :). The week before the show, as we were planning out our week and meals etc., he mentioned it and asked if I still wanted to go. Having totally forgotten about it, I was way surprised!

So, at the end of a very long week which included lots of piano-playing (that I enjoy, but keeps me busy) we got to go and relax and watch a very fun show. It was so creatively portrayed and the songs were fun! We laughed lots (and I cried some too). We both keep trying to sing the songs, don't get very far, and then say that we want to go see it again. But there's no more "Pay What You Can" nights so we probably won't. And this was a premier of the revised and expanded musical that was originally done in 2002. So it's not like you can even find all the music somewhere or go rent the movie. You can however listen to a few snippets here. The cast we saw included some of the same characters as are recorded on that website (Anna, Jacob, and Sarah).

I'm thinking it may be my new favorite musical - it's family-friendly and fun yet includes real heartache. Love it!

  • Seminary Wives Retreat Anticipation

The general idea of the Seminary Wives' Retreat is great - getting out of downtown Dallas, being with other seminary wives, gaining insight and wisdom from faculty and ministry wives - all of that general anticipation is great. But as I think about leaving this evening, I'm dreading one thing - cabin cheers. It reminds me of elementary camp where the teams had to come up with cheers. It's often quite humiliating unless you have a creative, energetic leader in the group. And I am not that person even though I'm sometimes looked to to be that person. And when you force women to do this cheer, the women who don't like to do it (to put themselves out there and be crazy and loud), can make the whole group look lame. That's not their fault, I'm not asking them to be someone they're not. But the whole cheer thing is making people do something that they may not like. So they're you have it. My anticipation has turned to dread, but the dread will be over when the cheers are over. (But the cheers won't be over til after bkfst tomorrow morning - and all evening tonight, depending on how into it the girls in my cabin are, we could be working on it). I choose, right now, to have low expectations. Is that okay? Maybe it won't be on the schedule! (highly unlikely, but my fingers are crossed) I could think of many funner ways to get to know the ladies in my cabin. Ways that involve WAY less stress. Remind me to put this on my evaluation.

  • Jeremy's birthday

Today is my love's birthday and we've had a fun day...actually weekend! Friday is was 75 degrees and the afternoon was sunny! So since the activity I had planned was to go out with his gift (binoculars) and look at stars, we did the activity Friday evening. We got starbucks (I had planned this part thinking it would be cold and we would need warm drinks... but it was warm so we both got frappuccinos!) and then we headed as far out of the city as we could get. We went to a lake south of Dallas, sat by the lapping water and checked out the stars with his new pair of binoculars and with the planisphere he had brought along on our honeymoon!

Last night we invited our Spiritual Formation group over for a catch-up time and for birthday cake. Yummy stuff! We did the bkfst in bed tradition (but Jeremy actually had to remind me last night :(  and then for lunch I made imperial chicken - a recipe from Mom Wissink. You dip the chicken in butter and then in this mix of parmesan cheese, cracker crumbs, parsley, garlic, salt, and pepper - it's very yummy!

The rest of the day today Jeremy has spent enjoying football and putting assignments in his calendar. I'm so super proud of him! He finished last semester so well and even with doing well with his school we have great times together and with friends!

  • Recipes

Many thanks to Rachel Allen for her encouragement and friendship! Here's some recipes that she requested and others might enjoy.

Michelle Fink has come up with a Frappuccino recipe that we enjoy:
    10 c. brewed coffee
1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
    1/2 c. sugar
    2-4 tsp vanilla flavoring

Mix and add vanilla last. Freeze. Then crush and serve with cool whip and hot fudge.

This stromboli recipe is from a lady in our church in Omaha (passed on to me through a friend's Christmas gift recipe collection). It has become a favorite of ours to make for guests and some special occasions.

    1 loaf frozen bread dough
1/2 tsp each of oregano, parsley, dry mustard, pepper, garlic powder
    1 Tbsp butter
1/4 lb each of pepperoni, salami, ham, mozzarella
any veggies you want - onion, peppers, olives etc. (I saute them first)

Roll dough into 14 in. square. Mix seasonings with butter and spread on dough. Cover middle 1/3 of dough with meats and cheese (top with veggies, if desired). Cut strips in dough and braid over top of filling. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes.

  • Our Bathroom

Today, our bathroom is supposed to be finished!!!!  Yeah!!  Last night marked 7 weeks I believe since they started taking it apart and fixing it stage by stage.  There was a leak in the sewer pipe in the wall which had slowly seeped under our linoleum.  They took everything except the shower out and repaired quite a bit of the sheetrock.  For a few days there we had no good mirror by a light.  I kept being late to work those days.

Then, everything was fixed, but the new cabinets which had been ordered, had not shown up yet.  The maintenance guy came by 1 week after we had expected them and told me a long story about them being stolen by the delivery company...   I'm definitely a spoiled American!  But I like having cupboards and drawers so that our bathroom items are not just spread out all over the countertop.  We also didn't have a TP holder.  That got old as well!

Finally, Tuesday, they came and put in our new cupboards!!!  They've done touch-up painting and such, and today they are putting the linoleum back in!!!  No more make-shift area rugs and no more stuff strewn out on the counter top!  And it gets even better!  Our new vanity under the sink has 6 drawers and 1 larger cabinet-like area, instead of the 2 drawers and 3 larger cabinet-like areas!!!  So much easier to store stuff in there!

Last night Jeremy organized our bathroom while I almost finished our curtains.  I'll try to put pix on here this weekend of the curtains and the bathroom.  Yeah!

Tonight we're having a Narnia Party at our apt.  I've invited over friends from work, we're going to have fondue and play some Narnia trivia-type games and then go to an 8 pm showing of Prince Caspian.  Very exciting!

  • Oh Chaplain...

Chaplain Bill Bryan, Chaplain for DTS, is definitely a source of cheer.  I help him with various things and hef often says, "You are very kind.................to older people."  You almost start to say, You're welcome and then you realize he's saying, you're just being nice cuz I'm old.  He's just joking ~ and he says it often ~ but it always makes me smile and say "Oh Chaplain..."

  • Quotes from Jeremy

"You always follow directions so well, honey.  Except when you can make it better."  (Like adding corn to the chili we made today.)

"What does one wear to a Christian Endeavor night?" (asking me what to wear to our Sunday evening church service at Eden)

  • Snow in Texas!

Let's see...what day was this?...early in the morning March 7.  When my friend and I went to work out at 5:30 this is what we walked out to.  It was enough to have to get out the brush!  Kinda fun!  About 2-3 hours north of us they had 9 inches!!!

    snow on car back

    snow on car front

For those of you who know campus, but haven't been here in a bit, that is the new Single Student Housing in the background towards the left.  (The tall squarish building.)  It doesn't have a name yet, and Housing is planning to move in May 1 and students will move in the middle of May.  Dedication will be next October so as not to conflict with graduation here in May.  Did you want all those details?  Well, as Chaplain Bill would say, "There you have it."

  • January 29, 2008

I came home for lunch on January 29, 2008, and Jeremy asked me if I remembered what today was.  I hadn't thought about it recently, but it was the 3rd anniversary of our first date. :)  So he suggested that we do something that evening.  We decided to go to a coffee shop like we had done to end the evening on our first date.  We talked for a while and then we studied.  Kinda crazy how it's still a special date even when you're studying!  It's nice to just not be at the house where there's always things to do!
